These are the services that we offer.
At Dental Studio of Jersey City, we treat all our new and existing patients the same! It is not enough to only have a thorough exam at your first office visit. As long as you continue coming, we will always provide a complete and thorough exam at each of your re-care appointments.
Oral Cancer Screening
More than 8,000 deaths were attributed to oral cancer in the past year. When caught early, oral cancer can be treated more easily. If you are a tobacco, smokeless tobacco user, and/or regular alcohol drinker, you are at a higher risk of developing oral cancer. The screening will consist of a visual inspection of the oral cavity, as well as palpation of the jaw and neck areas. In between visits, it is important you are aware of any suspicious lesions and contact our office if they do not disappear after two weeks. Similar to unplanned developments of cavities and infections, we cannot always see everything but we do everything in our hands to provide the most thorough examination.
Periodontal disease is the leading cause of tooth loss in the United States. Dr. Chung will examine your gum tissues to ensure that gum disease is detected in its early stages when possible. The examination is a way to assess your periodontal health by examining your teeth, plaque, gums, bite, bone structure, and risk factors. Evaluation of these six areas will determine the state of your periodontal health. Because bone loss is a significant consideration in determining the outcome of cosmetic treatment, we take the health of your gum and bone tissues very seriously. Research has also shown the strong association between periodontal disease and chronic inflammatory conditions (ex. cardiovascular disease, respiratory disease, diabetes). It is therefore imperative to treat the inflammation/periodontal disease as soon as possible to ensure you keep your body healthy!
The forces from your bite can sometimes cause chipping and fracturing of teeth depending on the location and angulation of your teeth. Unfortunately, teeth shift as you age. Through the use of clear aligners, such as Invisalign, Dr. Chung can help you achieve straight teeth and proper occlusion. This can prevent extensive treatment like fillings, crowns, and gum surgeries in the future.
Caries (Cavity) Exam
During the visual and radiographical examination, areas of decay on chewing surfaces and between the teeth are located.
An evaluation of all your exams will allow Dr. Chung to provide a comprehensive treatment plan (with options when possible) for you to contribute and choose what would work best for you!
Sealants act as a barrier to prevent cavities, protect the chewing surfaces of the back teeth and should be applied as a child's permanent teeth erupt. Though typically placed on children's teeth, adult molars can also be sealed, provided a tooth does not show evidence of decay. Thorough brushing and flossing can remove food particles and plaque from smooth surfaces, but oftentimes the toothbrush bristles cannot reach into the grooves of your posterior teeth. Sealants protect these more vulnerable areas by "sealing out" the bacteria. The procedure is fast and easy- no drilling or numbing required!
A filling in a tooth is required when a cavity/decay develops in the tooth. Oftentimes, a cavity won't hurt until it is quite deep, potentially infecting the nerve of the tooth. When caught early, a cavity can be easily cleaned out and treated with a simple filling. Made of tooth-colored ceramic and plastic materials, composite fillings restore the teeth's natural beauty.
Inlays and onlays are often used to restore teeth with large areas of decay and wear. When you do not need a full crown, inlays/onlays may be the solution. An inlay fits within the contours of a tooth, while an onlay restores one or more cusps (peaks) of the tooth. The procedure is a lab-made filling in which composite, porcelain, or gold is applied to a tooth to provide support as a more conservative treatment option as opposed to a crown.
A crown is a tooth-shaped "cap" restoration that covers a tooth in order to strengthen it as well as restore it to its normal shape and size. A crown may be placed to protect a weak tooth from breaking, cover and support a tooth with a large filling and minimal tooth structure left, attach a bridge in place, protect weak teeth from fracturing, restore fractured teeth, cover a dental implant, or provide strength to a weakened root-canaled tooth.
A fixed bridge, usually made of zirconia or gold, is used to bridge the gap created by one or more missing teeth. A bridge helps to restore your smile, create a normal bite, restore the ability to properly chew and speak, prevent stress on the dental arch, and prevent the drifting and tilting of adjacent teeth. Bridges are attached to the teeth on either side of the missing tooth/teeth. It involves preparing the adjacent teeth for crowns, as the false tooth is then attached to those crowns. Depending on your specific case, implants are sometimes a more ideal option to consider versus a bridge.
Single Tooth or Multiple Tooth Implant Restorations
Dental implants replace tooth roots that have been missing since birth or have been lost to gum disease, infection, trauma, or decay. An implant (a small post that protrudes from the gum) is surgically placed in the jawbone and becomes a permanent part of your mouth. With implants, patients no longer experience the moving and irritation of dentures. Dental implants look, feel, and function like natural teeth because they are made of Titanium, a metal that is highly biocompatible with your tissues and jawbone. A highly experienced oral surgeon or periodontist recommended by our office will perform the surgical procedure for your implant. Dr. Chung will complete the implant procedure by attaching a natural and functional crown to the implant, providing you once again with the comforts and confidence that accompanies a beautiful smile. A major benefit to getting an implant is for bone maintenance- with the implant present, the bone in the missing tooth area will not resorb!
The nerve within your tooth can sometimes become infected, due to trauma or decay. A root canal treatment can prevent you from losing your tooth and alleviate the pain caused by the swelling/abscess. When left untreated, the infection can cause severe health complications as the bacteria can enter the bloodstream and spread throughout the body.
During the root canal procedure, the infected tissue is removed and the space where the nerve once sat is filled with a special filling material. Because the tooth is no longer "living", it becomes weak over time and therefore is best restored with a crown to prevent future fracture.
Usually customized from porcelain, veneers are thin, semi-translucent facings bonded to the fronts of teeth, either to improve esthetics or protection of the tooth's outer surface. Veneers are durable, stain-resistant, and natural looking. They conceal broken, chipped, discolored, crooked, and misshapen teeth, and provide you with the winning smile you have always wanted.
Bonding is a process in which tooth-colored material is applied to tooth surfaces, sculpted into shape, hardened, and polished to match surrounding teeth. With this procedure Dr. Chung can close gaps, repair chipped or fractured teeth, and disguise discolored teeth. Bonding usually requires one office visit and no anesthesia. Bonding is the choice of treatment for patients who have minor front tooth imperfections.
Tooth-whitening procedures offer patients with stained or discolored teeth an opportunity to have a whiter and brighter smile. Whitening significantly reduces external surface stains affected by food and beverage. We provide an at-home whitening system, which is comfortable and affordable, as well as an in-office appointment to obtain your most ideal result. Our in-office procedure does not include the light and therefore does not de-hydrate your teeth, leaving you with a more realistic result at the end of your appointment. There is also decreased sensitivity with this new technology. Dr. Chung is happy to evaluate the best way for you to obtain the result you want!
Want straight teeth without placing metal brackets throughout your mouth? You can now achieve this goal with a set of clear aligners through Invisalign. Customized for each individual case, these custom-molded clear trays guide your teeth into proper alignment. The trays are virtually invisible, and you can remove them while eating or brushing!
Night Guard Therapy
Night guards are used as a treatment option to prevent damage to the chewing surfaces of the teeth associated with grinding and clenching while sleeping. By creating an acrylic (BPA-free) pattern of your teeth, Dr. Chung can help you protect your teeth from unnecessary wear and future periodontal conditions/bone loss.
If you play contact sports, sports guards are highly recommended. Ask about our BPA-free and comfortable guards to protect your beautiful teeth!
